Description

Large rectangular abstract painting. Design on a mottled green ground consists of two vertical objects with tops leaning slightly to right; object on left has multi-coloured top with irregular shaped projections, five square and rectangular projections towards base; top of object on right has a curved blue horizontal intersected vertically by an irregularly shaped pointed projection, below is a semblance of a beaked figure; at base, image of an open transformation mask, two of its extensions, one beak-like and the other rounded, are imposed at different angles over the vertical object on left, small rounded extension with a possible 'eye' form at side on right, fourth extension comes towards viewer at base; bird-like image at centre of mask. Signed in lower corner on right: J. Shadbolt '83 '86. Simple silver toned metal frame, black wood strip between frame and edges of painted surface, frame extends slightly beyond edges of painting.
