Description

Silk, rectangular sash on damask fabric, with unfinished edges on the narrow ends; the background has a repeating leaf design under narrow alternating horizontal stripes of red and black. The design consists of a central three formalized black floral patterns and vines; each end has white cherry blossoms outlined in gold on blue bamboo leaves.

History Of Use

Used to help secure obi by wrapping around waist and tying in front, it is then pushed down between obi and kimono to form a decorative border.

Narrative

Part of the Miss Jessie M. Miller Collection. Miss Miller was a teaching evangelist for the Anglican Church of Canada.
