Description

Round, bronze bowl with dark dull patina merging to black on underside; surface rough in some places. Flat base, on 3 feet like clam shells; straight sides, rounded and flaring out near mouth with rim turned outward. Horizontal loop handles in wave-like design set below rim. Turning marks are visible on inner surface; mended break below one handle near base. On outer surface below rim is a band of leiwan pattern, enclosed by heavy bands, below which are 8 floral-appearing tao-t'ieh motifs. Mark in 3 Chinese seal characters 'Made by Song Eun'.

Possibly used over a brazier to prepare and serve shellfish, or to hold sand for the insertion of incense sticks in a temple
