Woodblock print. Image of a woman facing forward with her head facing to her right side. Her black hair is tied up in a bun. She wears a black kimono, with a blanket pulled up in front of her. The blanket has a pattern of red and orange flowers with white stems, on a blue background, trimmed with pink. Along the upper right side is a vertically rectangular, red seal with black characters above and next to it. The background is grey. The print is vertically rectangular.

Narrative

This print, Kotatsu (こたつ) by Itō Shinsui (伊東深水) is from his Gendai bijin-shū daini-shū (現代美人集第二輯/Modern Beauties Second Series). Kotatsu is a low table with a designated futon and a heater inside. The print has his signature 深水画 (Shinsui-ga) with his seal. The Japanese date is next to his signature, 昭和六年十二月 (December, Showa 6/1931).
