Description
Woodblock print showing a night street scene with shops and people in the Muromachi Neighbourhood, Kyoto. Colours are blue, green, purple, yellow, grey and black. The artist’s seal (知克) appears in red at the lower right corner. The title of the work appears in black Japanese characters on the right margin. Black Japanese characters in the margin of the bottom left corner are the names of the publisher and the edition. Below them are the names of the printer and the carver. The paper mount is stamped "Made in Japan".
Narrative
Title: Kyoto Muromachi Fukin (京都室町付近). Publisher: Kyoto Hanga-in (京都版画院); Printer: Itō (伊藤); Carver: Fujimura (藤村). There is a seal to indicate the print is a Shinagwa edition. Kyoto Hanga-in (京都版画院) was established in 1935 in Kyoto and is still active.
