Description
Print showing villagers running from a heavy rainfall, and lightning. Main colours are green, yellow, grey, blue. The artist’s stylized seals appear at the lower left corner, in red, on the image. The red Japanese characters in the lower right margin are the seals of the publisher, printer and carver. The paper mount is stamped "Made in Japan".
Narrative
Title: Yūdachi (夕立). Publisher: Kyoto Hanga-in (京都版画院); printer: Ōno (大野); carver: Matsuda (松田). This print is paired with print N2.1256 d. It is alternatively known as “Storm" and "Thunder in the Farming Land.” Kyoto Hanga-in was established in 1935 in Kyoto and is still active.
