Description
Print showing a night street scene with shops and people on Hanamijoji Street in Kyoto. Colours are blue, green, purple, yellow, grey and black. The artist’s seal (知克) is in red at the lower left corner. Black Japanese characters in the margin of the bottom left corner are the names of the publisher and the edition. Below them are the names of the printer and the carver, with a red seal. The paper mount is stamped "Made in Japan".
Narrative
Title: Kyoto Gion Hanamikōji (京都祇園花見小). Publisher: Kyoto Hanga-in (京都版画院); edition name, Shinagwa-ban (品川版). Printer: Itō (伊藤); Carver: Fujimura (藤村). There is a seal to indicate the print is a Shinagwa edition. Kyoto Hanga-in (京都版画院) was established in 1935 in Kyoto and is still active.
