Description
An oil lamp made of low-fired ceramic with a roughly applied shiny green glaze over a buff-coloured body, which shows on the base. The top of the lamp is bowl-shaped, placed on a cylinder that flares towards the bottom, which is in the shape of a low saucer. There is a decorative ring slightly more than halfway up the cylinder.
History Of Use
Such lamps are used in Cantonese opera to represent the oil lamps that are used in real life in temples. The oil is burned as an offering.
