Description
Print showing a farmer at work, with children playing outdoors and his wife mending a kimono. Main colours are blue, green, red, brown, white and black. The artist’s stylized seals appears, in red, at the lower right on the image. The red Japanese characters in the lower right margin are the seals of the publisher, printer and carver. The paper mount is stamped "Made in Japan".
Narrative
Title: Nōka no shogatsu (農家の正月). Publisher: Kyoto Hanga-in (京都版画院); printer: Ōno (大野); carver: Matsuda (松田). The print is alternatively known as “Family at Home” and “The Village Life.” Kyoto Hanga-in (京都版画院) was established in 1935 in Kyoto and is still active.
