Description
Print called "Russo-Japanese war nishiki-e broad picture no.1, a great sea battle outside the Port of Lushun (Port Arthur)". Naval scene, with two men on deck of ship firing on another in background. Colours are blue-green, black, red, yellow and grey.
Narrative
This print is the middle print of the triptych by Ito Seisai (伊藤静斎) and is entitled Nichiro kōsen nishiki-e ichi, Ryojunkō no daikaisen (日露交戦錦絵一, 旅順港之大海; Russo-Japanese war nishiki-e broad picture no.1, a great sea battle outside the Port of Lushun [Port Arthur]). The print has the title on the right. The MOA collection has two prints from this triptych (N2.1186 c), but lacks the print on the left with the artist’s signature, Seisai (静斎).
