Description

Dark brown, round ceramic container has a figure crouched frog-like on the top. Upper half of pot and ridged back of figure have the same decorative geometric patterning of raised dots connected with bands of two, three or four lines of tiny oval impressions. There is a round opening at the rear end of the figure and a smaller hole at the top of its elongated ringed head.

History Of Use

Azande, or Zande, effigy vessel. This style of ceramic was developed in the early twentieth century. They are made in Zande and Mangbetu villages, now mainly for an external market.
