Description

Cooking basket made of tightly coiled spruce root. The inside of the basket is heavily soiled from use. The outside has the traces of an imbricated design which is too faint to identify. The basket has a length of plaited cedar bark rope attachedto its rim.; Good

Context

The construction of the basket suggests it is Interior Salish in origin but it may have been trade along the coast (G.Crowther). The original European tribal names and, where possible, current tribal names have both been given in separate GLT fields.; A label attached to the baskets states, Cooking basket made of spruce root. The Indians heat stones and put in basket and put on stones clams and cover with seaweed.
