Context

The catalogue card states the basket was made by Westcoast Indians, i.e. those living on Westcoast of Vancouver Island from Nootka on the north to the end of the island on the south. The woman who was making this basket came from a point about 40 miles south of Nootka. The original European tribal names and, where possible, current tribal names have both been given in separate GLT fields.; The basket was made using a technique known as wrapped twining, and was very probably destined to be sold to tourists (G.Crowther).; Collected by: McIlwraith.T.F in ?- - 1923; ?- - 1924
