Cape Item Number: E 1910.32 from the MAA: University of Cambridge

Description

Short seamless cape of woven cedar bark. The cape has a band of hide wrapped around the edge. Good condition.

Context

The original European tribal names and, where possible, current tribal names have both been given in separate GLT fields. The skirt is marked as E 1910.29 but accessioned as E 1910.32.; The cape has been made from beaten cedar bark which has softened the texture and allowed it to be rolled into threads. The wearing of cedar bark cape was noted by early traders on the coast, but such garments were rapidly replaced by European clothing.; Exhibited: Old Anthropological displays at CUMAA, case 36, dismantled 22081986.
