Skin Item Number: Z 34979 from the MAA: University of Cambridge

Description

A crumpled piece of shark skin.; Good

Context

The original European tribal names and, where possible, current tribal names have both been given in separate GLT fields.; Shark skin was used as an abrasive by carvers when a smooth finish was required on a piece of wood work. The skin has a natural abrasive quality, akin to sand paper which is used today (G.Crowther).
