Context

The collector noted the object was found, by natives...on an old living site at the mouth of Steen Creek, where it joins the Fraser River about 8 miles above Lytton, British Columbia. The original European tribal names and, where possible, current tribal names have both been given in separate GLT fields.; The object description given by Emmons is complimented by addition information on use. The object was said by the natives to have been a war implement. Such long worked pieces were also held as property and not used but exchanged or displayed at ceremonies, but when used as weapons were fitted and lashed to a short handle.
