Description

A plume cluster of black cassowary feathers, approximately 27 cm. long, bound to a piece of rattan cane, 36 cm. long (to the binding) with a band of bark cord, 9 cm. wide. The band is coated with yellow ochre. Two small pink feathers are attached to the end of the plume.

History Of Use

Worn by men for self decoration in dancing. Inserted into back of wide bark belt, arching upward and backward. Bobs up and down as dancer moves. Symbol of political and economic status.
