Description

A very long band of natural-coloured braided bark to which are attached cowrie shells arranged contiguously, each approximately 2 cm. long. Attached with bark cord, which has been threaded through the ends of each, there are two adjacent shells, which are then tied to the band. Contains 342 cowrie shells.

Used as a unit of economic value in ceremonial exchange, for example in bride-wealth and child payments.
