Description
An arrow shaft made of a variety of pitpit (sword grass). The shaft is light brown with a black coating. The fore-shaft of black palm wood is round in cross section and narrower at the point end. This has been incised with deep longitudinal and short transverse lines. The insertion into the shaft has been secured with a sleeve of woven rattan. Sleeves and fore-shaft are coated with red ochre.
History Of Use
Used in hunting and warfare, also carried in ritual dancing, bow and arrow may metaphorically symbolize the Kewa male, especially the aggressive/war aspects as opposed to reciprocity aspects.
