Description

Coiled, rectangular basket with bundle foundation and split stitching. Geometric design imbricated on 4 sides in light yellow-brown, black and red. Coiled rectangular lid which fits inside basket. Lid has slat foundation. Red and light yellow-brown beading around rim. Red beading on top of lid appears incomplete or missing. Bottom has slat foundation.

History Of Use

Traditionally, baskets were used for a variety of domestic purposes, but starting in the mid-19th century, many basketry goods were made as sale items to provide a source of cash income.
