Approximately nine hundred and fifty round, translucent red glass beads with opaque, white centres; strung in a large circle.

History Of Use

Beads were extensively traded on the Northwest Coast from earliest trading contacts, throughout the 19th century. These red beads with white centres were a common Hudson's Bay Company trade item.

Narrative

This type of bead was commonly called Hudson's Bay (Company) beads, or the later type of cornaline d'allepo. Most 19th century glass beads were made in Europe, especially Italy, as well as France and Czechoslovakia.
