Description

Plain handle with circular ring at one end, 3.5 cm in diameter. There are twelve bells attached to four prongs in a circle at the other end. Each bell is globular with a slit opening and no clapper.

History Of Use

Bells are used by shamans during incantations or kuts. Kuts are held for such purposes as exorcising evil spirits, during illness, or at death, and for fortune and procreation of a son. They are usually held on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month and may be a family or community affair. Shamans are usually female professionals or elders.
