Description

Saucer shaped dish on an elevated foot rim. Outer rim has six lobes. Inside depicts two black and red cocks, one white cock, stylized flowers, grass, rocks, and fungus. Outer side has three flower sprays of peaches and lotus. Stylized lotus around foot rim. Square seal on bottom.

History Of Use

Nonya Ware was carried by migrating Chinese to Southeast Asia. It was also used in China.

Iconographic Meaning

The peach and lotus are symbols of fertility and immortality. The cock is the embodiment of yang, warmth and life of the universe.
