Description

Bowl with a concave central depression on the top, and a relatively flat surface across the back with half of a second depression. A zoomorphic face is carved across the front of the bowl with a wide protruding tongue and bulging eyes. There is also a curved indent and a flexed limb on each side behind the face.

History Of Use

Zoomorphic bowls, of this type, are found widely in southern B.C. from about 2500 years ago. They were probably used for ritual purposes, although simpler forms may have served for pigment mortars or other domestic uses, such as grinding wild nuts and seeds.
