Description

Circular basket lid with a red knob handle in the centre. Round wrapped twined lid with hollow faded red knob which is attached only by one unravelled strand. Design is of two bands of faded purple, yellow and purple on outside edge and around knob area. Two faded purple whales between bands. Solid red band around knob.

History Of Use

Traditionally, baskets were used for a variety of domestic purposes, but starting in the mid-19th century, most basketry goods were made as sale items to provide a source of cash income.
