Description

Red cedar neck ring consisting of triple strand twisted rope. The top and bottom have fibre twine wrapped around. The sides have strips of cedar and twine wrapped around, attaching smaller twisted cedar strands that dangle down. One side has 21 strands, the other has 26. The ring is oval shaped.

History Of Use

Neck rings were worn by Hamatsa dancers. The Hamatsa novice wore a distinguishable set of head, neck and wrist rings every night of his performance which was a specific badge of identification.

Ring is triple strand in "z" twist. Tassel strands are triple and double "z" twist and triple "s" twist.
