Description

A basket (part a) with a fitted lid (part b) made of dark brown bamboo? It is narrow at the top and then swells at the shoulders becoming tapered again at the bottom. There is a lip at the base. Two loops at the base of the neck have an attached cord. The cord is made of grass rings with a centre piece of twilled fibre.

History Of Use

Traditional utilitarian basket. This type of basket is being replaced by contemporary mass-produced goods.

Cultural Context

Used for holding pounded rice.
