Description

A simple straight apron made of coarsely-woven red, and black horizontally striped wool textile with off-white and yellow woven accents. Made of a rectangle of fabric with the top corners folded inside to provide shaping. Red, and black wool braid sewn around the sides and bottom, extending to form ties at the waist. Narrow hems at top and bottom. Quite stiff and heavy.

Narrative

This garment, part of a Christian woman's costume, was collected by the donor while she was a member of an archeological field team near Bjelavici, Yugoslavia (now in Bosnia), northwest of Sarajevo, during the summer of 1968.
