Description

A pair of blue and off-white, hand-knitted anklet socks. The tops are made with off-white plain stockinette stitch, finished with four rows of garter stitch at the cuff; extending about 16 cm. above the ankle. The feet are bright blue worked in stockinette stitch with horizontal patches of fair isle pattern in off-white.

Narrative

These socks, part of a Christian woman's costume, were collected by the donor while she was a member of an archeological field team near Bjelavici, Yugoslavia (now in Bosnia), northwest of Sarajevo, during the summer of 1968.
