Model Totem Pole Item Number: 2651/1 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

A carved argillite model totem pole with a flat rectangular base. The figures on the pole, from bottom to top, include the following: a beaver, a raven with its beak tucked behind its own upturned tail, a human-like face, and an eagle.

Narrative

It is thought that the donor's father may have purchased the pole from Davidson in Haida Gwaii c. 1962, while he was working as a logger there. Robert Davidson (Sr., died 1969) was a carver, living in Old Massett at that time.
