Coin, round, with a four-sided hole at the centre, a rim around the outer edge and a centre hole. The obverse has four characters, and the reverse has four characters. Tongzhi zhongbao (top-bottom-right-left) in Chinese characters on obverse; boo ciowan left-right (mintmark) in Manchu, dang shi, top, bottom (value 10) in Chinese on reverse. Extra metal on rim top-right, bottom-left; inner and outer rims not filed smooth; rim pits; file marks.
