Description

Rectangular coiled cedar root tray with parallel wood slat base and walls. Entwined loopwork rim that attaches to overcast handles at each of the ends. Occassional red and black cherry bark imbricated elements on both exterior and interior surfaces.

Specific Techniques

Sto:lo Elder Rosaleen George notes that this basket demonstrates the banneq' technique. This type of decoration is also known as imbrication and involves folding the design elements over and over again as each coil is sewn to the preceding row. Rosaleen also refers to this as the running stitch.
