Description

Indonesian slit gong or Kentongan wood drum carved with a slight bulbous shape. The top is flat with a semi-circular handle with a cylindrical shaped stick running through that has a carved snake head on each end; bottom is rounded. The sides are carved in relief with a stylized geometric design of triangles, semi-circles, circles and diagonal lines; painted orange, yellow and brown. Through the middle of the body is a large slit opening that leads to a hollow interior; opening is lined with a band of triangles. There is a hole drilled through the top for hanging.
