Description

Red damask furisode (振袖) with white checkered designs. The damask is woven containing a peony motif. The neck and centre opening are edged with a wide cream band. The band has oval panels embroidered with bird and floral motifs in cream and silver. The sleeves have long hanging panels and an opening under the arms. The front, back and sleeves have abstract shapes and floral motifs in tiny white raised squares on red ground. The inner lining is red silk.

Furisode (振袖), a style of formal kimono with long swinging sleeves. This furisode is worn by girls on formal occasions.

Specific Techniques

Part of the garment is made using a resist tie dyeing technique, kanoko shibori (鹿の子絞り).
