Description

Bilaterally symmetrical pencil drawing of a thunderbird in the Northwest Coast style. Extensive ink inscriptions above and below the image give the title as "'Hïlunga' Thunder-Bird," and include explanatory remarks: "This design is reproduced from that appliqued in red on a dark blue blanket: the applique was held in place with dentalia shells. Later white buttons were substituted for shells." Number 4 in the upper right corner.

Narrative

Created by a student at the Alberni Residential School in the late 1930s. The school was located near the Tseshaht reserve, Tsahaheh 1, about 4 kilometres north of Port Alberni.
