Pictorial Charm Item Number: Edz4276 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Round, square centre hole, inner and outer rims on both sides, six characters on obverse, design on reverse; six seal-script characters around charm; constellation design on reverse.

History Of Use

Probably used for hanging or display. (Larson, David) The coin was probably designed after prototype round coins in the mid-first millenium B.C. The constellation on the reverse suggests a Daoist context. The unique design and archaistic characters may be intended to evoke the mystical sentiment of the Daoist ritual that the charm/coin was used in. (Li, Min)
