Coin-Like Charm Item Number: Edz4222 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Round, square hole in centre, inner and outer rims on both sides, four Chinese characters on obverse, two Chinese characters on reverse.

History Of Use

A coin-like charm, which could have circulated (Larson, David). Minted as part of a set (incomplete, some provinces missing, some duplicate), probably to commemorate important events or festivals such as New Year or the beginning of a new reign. In the set each coin represented a province (analogous to the Canadian millennium quarters). Each obverse has a phrase on the imperial cosmology, social mobility, or personal enhancement. The reverse has a province name (Li, Min).
