Coin, round, with a four-sided hole at the centre, a rim around the outer edge and a centre hole. The obverse has four characters, and the reverse has four characters and a nail mark. Hongwu tongbao (top-bottom-right-left) in Chinese characters on obverse; nail mark bottom-left at diagonal on reverse. Extra metal inside centre hole; outer rim edge not smooth.
History Of Use
Normal sized circulating coin. Issue of first Ming emperor.
