Description

Deep blue and black padded hanten (袢纏, also written as 半天, 袢天, 半纏). There are white basting stitches knotted overall. It has a family crest or kamon (家紋) known as maru ni hanabishi (丸に花菱).

History Of Use

There are different styles of hanten (袢纏) for different uses. It is worn as a winter jacket/coat if padded, and as a workman’s jacket by traditional shopkeepers or during a festival. Hanten is casual wear and worn over ordinary clothes, not over a kimono.
