Description

Rectangular woodblock print on off-white paper. Depicted in black ink is an image of Buddha seated cross-legged on a moon disk and lotus flower. His hands rest in his lap, holding a begging bowl with nectar. He is wearing a robe but his left shoulder and chest are exposed. He is surrounded by clouds, sun and moon.

Iconographic Meaning

Buddha Amitābha, the Buddha of Limitless Light, seated cross-legged on a moon disk and lotus flower, holding a begging bowl with nectar. He is wearing the saffron robes of a fully ordained monk and bears the signs of a Buddha (elongated ears and head protuberance).

Specific Techniques

Woodblocked printed, on traditional, handmade Tibetan paper.
