Under Skirt Item Number: 376/3 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

White cotton under skirt (or slip) with floral eyelet border at hem. The petticoat skirt is pleated into the top band with wide pleats all facing in one direction. The band and top of skirt open at the front but have no fasteners. The upper edge of the band curves forming wide straps and round armholes. The edges are finished with white cotton trim with small scalloped edges.

History Of Use

Under-skirts “Sok-chima” in this style are typical of this period, and are more decorated than those used now. They open in the front to allow for the comfort of the woman’s breasts. The pleats are wide to avoid bulk, which was not desired then.
