Description
Square shaped wool cloth made of two smaller pieces sewn together in the middle; woven four selvedge edges. The design consists of geometric patterned bands of white and red along with white and black intermixed with solid strips of black, red, light red and green.
History Of Use
Worn around the shoulders or used to carry bundles on the back.
Narrative
Bought from Christianne LeFebve, a Canadian ex-Peace Corps worker living and working in Puno, at her shop La Sirena. Her opinion was that it was made in the early 20th century in Juli, an Aymara lake community (the narrow pattern bands and wide fields are characteristic of Aymara weaving). Approximately 80 years old at the time of purchase?
