Pants Item Number: Sf1103 from the MOA: University of British Columbia

Description

Black flannel pants with white cotton flounces. The front has a decorative panel on each leg consisting of a maroon strip bordered by pink and green bands of cotton and a band of gold decorative ribbon. Along the bottom edge of the panel are sequins, beads and ribbon. Fibre twine ties at the waist.

History Of Use

These pants are worn over top of bayeta, knee length trousers, the fly is at the front and the decorated panels are at the back. This is part of the costume that is worn by a group of men who dance and play musical instruments at a fiesta on March 12th which celebrates the heroes and mourns the fallen of the Jumbate battle which was fought in the 19th Century during the war for independence from Spain.
