Description

A long cotton textile with rows of a bird-headed figure looking over its pointed triangle tail. The figures alternate two yellow and one red on a yellow background. A pair of double red lines form a border at the ends. In between the red lines is another, smaller bird-like figure with a hooked bill. This figure also alternates two yellow and one red. There are two finished edges, one only partially intact.

Narrative

Rosita Tovell's father was a collector of Peruvian pre-Columbian ceramics. Rosita moved to Peru in the early 1960s, while her husband served as ambassador to Peru and Bolivia. During this time Rosita began to study and collect pre-Columbian Peruvian ceramics and textiles.
