Description

White painted and burned face mask. Two horns protrude upward with slit cut out eyes below at a high point on the face, along which there is a large curved nose and raised dimpled cheeks. Mouth is carved grinning.

History Of Use

May have been used during marriage ceremonies.

Narrative

Was part of an exhibit at the UBC Art Gallery in 1973. Card says: "El Diablo: le hace burla al novio y trata de quitarle a la novia". Translation: "The Devil: mocks the bridegroom and tries to take the bride away from him."
