Description

Tall brown ovoid stoneware bottle (jug) tapering to flat base, narrow tapering neck, ridged inverted rim, high loop handle from neck to shoulder. On upper front neck is a relief bearded man and the number "4" impressed beneath, on shoulder. Dark molted glaze area down right side.

History Of Use

This large Bellarmine or Bartmann jug was probably used for wine storage.
