Description

White jar with baluster shape body, disc base, cylindrical neck and flared rim. Solid blue bands divided by black lines alternate with blue scrollwork bands on neck and body. The larger central portion has a cartouche with "sy d'acetos.s" inscribed.

History Of Use

The inscription Sy d’Bcto refers to a syrup of balsamic quince. This syrup was an electuary—a medicinal preparation of honey-like consistency, made by mixing powdered herbs or other drugs with a sweetening agent. It was a tonic designed to make the patient feel cared for.
