Description

Distaff of light coloured, unfinished wood with a rectangular shaped handle that widens into a C-shaped end. Both sides are carved with a zigzag pattern.

History Of Use

The unspun fleece is teased apart and hooked on the prongs of the distaff. The distaff is held in one hand and the fleece is played out carefully to be spun by the rotating drop spindle which is held in the other hand.

Narrative

Frame bought the piece from a vendor in the Huancayo Indian market near the train station on April 11, 1982.
