Description

Rectangular, coiled cedar root basket lid with imbricated designs in cherry bark. Parallel slat construction with reinforced stitching on shorter ends. Double diamond design with black along the inner and red along the outer portions.

Narrative

This is a basket typical of those made by the Coast Salish and Stl'atl'imx people, although this object was collected in the Telegraph Creek area. Since the late 1800s, coiled basketry has been traded and sold extensively.
