Description

Small black, hand woven skirt with woven wool trim along the top and bottom edge. The top border consists of a green design on a red ground with a white thin border; each side has woven ties. The bottom band has a red, white and orange striped design with white geometric detailing.

Narrative

Bought from Professor J. Antonio Garnica Davila in Cuzco on June 14, 1978. He teaches history at the University of San Marcos in Cuzco.

Iconographic Meaning

"Oregano" design, diamond patterns typical of Pisac area. Square colour boxes with "oregano" design are commonly seen on Pisac area costumes.
